Questioning your kale cleanse?

So you’ve decided not to commit intestinal arson.  Congratulations.

You’ve graduated from Conan the Worm Destroyer on TikTok to a student of Terrain University. Let’s continue.

If you read my last article (here), you’ll remember: you’re not a worm-riddled zombie—you’re a lush, symbiotic rainforest of microbiota, enzymes, emotions, and intelligence. And those “invaders” you’ve been told to obliterate with clove oil and pharmaceutical livestock meds? They might just be doing some intelligent cleanup work on your behalf.

But now that we’ve laughed at the madness, here’s the serious part:

Detox culture—especially the parasite cleansing branch—isn’t just overkill. It’s often counterproductive, especially when you stir the pot and there’s no where for it to go.

The Hidden Harm of “Killing Protocols”

Sure, blasting your bowels with oregano oil, kale smoothies (🤮) and mimosa pudica might make you feel like a mystical general of the herbal order. But here’s what they don’t tell you in those 30-second reels:

• Over-cleansing can damage your mucosal lining, your body’s delicate protective film that keeps inflammation in check.  You those “dead worms” you see in the toilet, that’s actually your dehydrated mucosal lining that has been stripped.

• Many of the “die-off” symptoms people celebrate—headaches, fatigue, rashes, bloating—are actually signs your elimination organs are overwhelmed by the toxins being forced out.

• Herbs like black walnut, wormwood, and clove are not meant to be daily snacks. They are potent and drying, and over time can impair digestion, liver function, and a balanced microbial environment.

• Antiparasitic medications like ivermectin or fenbendazole? Toxic medication designed for livestock. Their long-term effects on human (and animal) metabolic, lymphatic, and neurological function are understudied and, frankly, concerning.

This isn’t healing. It’s microbial symbiosis in reverse.

Terrain 101: You’re Not Dirty, You’re Just Stagnant

Let’s reframe: parasites aren’t “bad.” They’re responders to a sluggish terrain.

And a sluggish terrain can result from:

• A processed, low-mineral, sugar-fueled diet

• Overexposure to industrial seed oils and synthetic chemicals

• Dehydration and stagnant lymph

• Chronic stress and a nervous system stuck in “fight or flight”

• Holding onto emotional grief or trauma without metabolizing it

So no, your issue isn’t the worm. It’s the welcome mat you unintentionally rolled out to hosting toxic stagnation that they feed off of.

The good news? You can clean up without killing off your inner ecosystem.
