This leaves open the possibility of microbial causation of illness. Not guaranteed but still a possible contributor. Of course, I understand you were clarifying Pasteur's belief.
But imaginary viruses and bacteria do not cause "disease" regardless of one's terrain. Viruses clearly are an imaginary construct unsupported by any evidence. Bacteria are a symbiotic life support system as you brilliantly explain in your book Germs are not your Enemy.
In germ-theory thinking, it’s easy to read that sentence as implying “microbes sometimes don’t cause disease,” but remember microbes are more accurately understood as responders and indicators of internal conditions. That statement is stating that their presence in a location doesn’t mean symptoms of detoxification (cold/flu) will always show up, especially if they are able to do their job without hindrance.

Well said! A friend who just passed who had studied grasses on his farm for decades made the same analogies about farming. Insects have antennas that guide them to eat the weak plants, not the healthy ones.

Yep, the idea of an immune system was dreamt up by people who had a war mentality.

What we have is a garbage collection system and bacteria only feed on dead matter, helping to break it up so that it can be disposed of.
There's no fancy control center or some magic database of what to fight or not to fight.
